This collection is comprised of miscellaneous legal records and correspondence relating to individuals and families in Burke County, Georgia. The majority of documents relate to the buying and selling of real estate, and includes deeds, trust deeds,  and plot maps describing property lines. Also included are indentures, and letters related to these legal arrangements.

Slave bills of sale and inventory

Abstract

One document, dated Augusta, Apri 26 1834, records a payment of two thousand two hundred and fifty dollars for 5 slaves; Richard - 15 years old,Tabby and her three children, a boy [?roy] - seven years, a girl Laura - five years, and a boy [suckling] James, from L.B. [Morrisore] to B.B. Miller. One document, dated 1840, no location.  [Leaving] to S.A. [  ] Memorandum of Negro [  ] for 1840.  A list of names and prices are given. Both items are affixed to mats.
